Anyone been to the concerts at Hyde Park?
Can you take your own food and drinks?
Been told you can't but I'm sure people do, don't they?

I would echo oioi - it was very good and I've seen every Stevie Wonder tour here since 1973

BUT - I think most of the audience would have preferred about half an hour less of the weaker Songs In The Key Of Life songs. Also he should have dropped the Prince songs and those sung by his backing singers. Replace all those with the hits people want to hear.

Also, the light show / visuals were non-existent. Jeff Lynne and the ELO showed how it should be done recently.

Fantastic idea to stick raised 'VIP' areas in front of the stage to restrict the views of everyone else meaning people are squashed into a narrower area or accept being miles away or just watching a screen with no view of the stage at all.

The food might have improved at these events but the drink definitely has not. A collection of the worst beer and cider sold in the UK. That takes some doing.

And don't start me on the trend for people holding their phones up in the air all night. BUY A FUCKING CD OR DVD YOU CHEAPSKATE WANKERS.

Many a time but never tried to get food and drink in 'cos, If I'm going, I'd rather not carry a load of stuff around with me. The concessions aren't particularly expensive, food is good and I've never felt the need to get rat-arsed while there so the outlay is fairly reasonable IMHO. I've seen beer removed going in but not sure about food.

Stevie Wonder was excellent. Great music, great sound, loads of beer & food, no queue for the toilets. Some very dodgy dancing going on though.

Took my daughter to the Libertines two years ago (awful but it was for her). Got her to smuggle in the beers as she didn't get searched. Repeated the trick at the rugby world cup as they didn't search my son who carried it in that day. They both thought it was hilarious.

I'd rather have my testicles crushed in a vice than attend a pop concert. It would be my idea of eternal damnation.

Saw Sabbath there a few years back. Fuckin carnage and a right laff. Lot of money to go and watch a video screen though.

Never been but once sent a flock of wrens there, each one with a finely drilled out hole in it's beak to compliment each other. Each one an octave different so when in unison they sang it created an orchestral orgasm in the eardrum.

Re: Anyone been to the concerts at Hyde Park?
Regrettably i have not the pleasure in my phalanx of experience of witnessing true music making in Hyde park.

I have however made music there myself, of a crude and wanton kind.

I engaged you see in hurried love there, love in a rudimentary and awkward fashion in some bushes there.

Having walked there from the Zander bar ( i think) with a companion keen to inform me she was in a state of wishing to be boarded at the nearest ill lit copse.

Not long into the foliage brushed act my companion and i realised we were not alone, and were in point of fact being observed from a distance of mere metres by an actual observor only visible by his shoes.

I have not seen the young lady in question for several years but often wonder if she recalls our unknowing display of sudden stopped park amour.

Several years later whilst watching a documentary about the london parks the scene was summoned back and i actually became paranoid that my watching wife sitting aside me could actually sense and detect my dirty memory. She is a powerful entity but of course not gifted with the ability to remotely view my past indiscretions.

But if like me you have ever been waking next to your beau from a sex dream about someone else, we momentarily shit ourselves that they know, and have seen what our minds eye gazes upon. A strange caper, the sex befuddled mind.

Re: Anyone been to the concerts at Hyde Park?
I went to the first one in 1968
Pink Floyd, Tyrannasaurus Rex, Jethro Tull, DJ John Peel
It was amazing. About 100 to 200 people there

A load of us went down to the West End the previous night ready for The Rolling Stones (farewell to Brian Jones) concert a year later. Unfortunately, by the following morning I was in no state for the concert, went home & missed it. All my mates were rubbing it in afterwards saying how good it was! Gutted!

The following year (I think?) Pink Floyd were there again. I went but didn't enjoy it one bit. The crowds were horrendous & acoustics appalling

That was the last time I went

Went to see The Libertines a couple of years back. Can't take alcohol in there. I'd suggest a few bottles of mineral vodka, I mean, water and buy Coke in there. Worked for us and saves you being ripped off and queueing for yonks to get a beer (which we still did to top up!).

Re: Anyone been to the concerts at Hyde Park?
I saw Faith No More, Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Motorhead and Soulfly at a festival there a few years back and it was bloody excellent. The sound wasn't great at times earlier in the day as it was windy as fuck. We'd had a few beers beforehand so didn't bother attempting to bring anything in with us, the queues inside in between bands was woeful and I missed a fair bit of Soundgarden's set in the queue for a beer (I could still hear them though)

Re: Anyone been to the concerts at Hyde Park?
went last Saturday to see Florence and the Machine. A few pointers: 1) unless you have paid for Premium view tickets, get there fucking early or you wont see anything.2) the sound is generally shit, so if you find you cant see anything stand near a speaker stack, at least you'll be able to hear. 3) no you cant take anything in alcoholic or food wise, and not even a bottle of water larger than 33cl. They tip the water out and give you the plastic bottle back to get it refilled inside. 4) security going in is like being at the airport, so see point 1) above and get there early to get a good spot.

Food and drink are not extortionate price wise, but you are a captive audience literally, so take some cash.
